OUGD603 - Brief 02 - Bowling Together Evaluation

Evaluation

The branding and design work produced for Bowling Together created a successful and unique identity for the project. The project logo was highly effective in creating a recognisable brand across printed and digital material, as well as social media platforms. The colour scheme was appropriate to the underlying themes of the project, and opened up accessible to the intended, and wider, audiences. Although the production methods were limited to a standard printing facility, it was appropriate for the scale and budget of the project. Working with a paying client ensured that time keeping and documentation were crucial to the success of the project, and managing the project fully demanded rigorous organisational skills. Working with an external printer allowed communication and problem solving skills to be strengthened. Feedback from the client and attendees of the documentary screening event was highly positive. The branding was commended for its consideration of bowling culture, and the additional printed materials such as the posters and beer mats were well received for their reflection of the aesthetics and spirit of the original bowling alley.

OUGD603 - Brief 02 - Bowling Together Alternative Outcomes

Alternative Outcomes

As briefly discussed with the client, a range of other outcomes were also conceived. These included designs for t-shirts, stickers and foam fingers. A range of mock-up's were created to demonstrate these concepts:

Although none of these concepts were eventually possible within the budget of the project, the client was very enthusiastic about the ideas.

OUGD603 - Brief 02 - Bowling Together Feedback Card

Feedback Card

It was also requested that a system be created for attendees to the film screening and any subsequent talks could leave comments or feedback on the project. This resulted in the creation of a small feedback card. Inspiration for the design was again taken from the scoring system used for bowling, which allowed the project/event to be rated out of ten, with space for written feedback. Client and peer feedback confirmed that incorporating bowling material cultures into the designs across the project was very successful. These cards were printed A6 size on a plain white card stock.

OUGD603 - Brief 02 - Bowling Together Beer Mat

Beer Mat

In addition to the requested materials, I suggested that we create some more unique printed items that could be given away exclusively to attendees of the film screening. This included the concept of a beer mat. Using the logo as the primary feature of the design, details were also added about the the website and the project's social media handles. The beer mat was printed double sided, but due to the restrictions of the company used, the same design was printed on both sides.
