As the main focus for this project was the physical production of publication, I wanted to use this as an opportunity to produce a book that felt personal and focused on content that was entirely created by myself. I started by revisiting a variety of personal projects that I had started but not yet completed, and from these initial ideas included creating a series of t shirts displaying messages, a book of orange juice reviews (ultimately realised as part of Personal and Professional Practice module), and an exploration into the phenomenon of internet memes. The idea I was most interested in however was a series of drawings that I had done at the beginning of this course. These came from my interest in creating text based work, particularly instructional or interactive pieces. I find much inspiration from other text-based work by artists such as Yoko Ono and Carey Young, and so I wanted this publication to be a continuation of these
The original sketches are featured in the first image. On returning to this work it became clear that there would need to be an overarching theme present in order to create a series that could be connected through a single publication. There were a variety of possible themes that could have been taken from the original sketches, but I felt that the work became most accessible to an audience when viewed as a series of works about 'tenderness'. From this I created eight more sketches, focusing particularly on communicating and encourage a closeness, or some kind of intimate relationship, through every day activities and instructional pieces.
