OUG603 - Brief 01 - About Honey Research

Research

Much of the history of queer and lesbian groups has been systematically erased, either by the individuals themselves to keep content secret, or by institutions and communities at a time when the law prohibited the production and distribution of such content. Because of this, the project will aim to construct an alternative history, and in turn create ideas for possible queer futures, from found imagery sourced from books, magazines, TV shows and films. Not all of the content is explicitly queer, as most often queer content is not available of accessible, particularly for LGBT youth. This is tied to a lack of representation of queer individuals across visual culture. Growing up as a young queer individual myself, representation had to be sought from as many sources as possible, even if that meant projecting queer ideals onto a straight reality.
