OUGD504 - Studio Brief 02 - Design For Screen

Brief:

Create an immersive and engaging screen based user experience for a media of your choice, this could include; website, app, streaming service, title sequence, idents, onscreen graphic overlays, etc.

Identify the following;
-The client
-The problem
-The target audience
-The overarching aim of the project (what are you trying to achieve)

Considerations:

How can you maximise the potential of digital devices?

Must be global: digital formats are viewed on a global scale, this must inform your approach and design decisions

Use mixed media: a combination of image, audio and video should be used to communicate your message

The processes and procedures involved in designing for screen.

The relationship between designer and developer.

The role and skill set of the developer (and where you would find a developer to work with)
Research: what already exists in the design field, how innovative can you be

User Interface Design

User interface design is the design of user interfaces for machines and software, such as computers, home appliances, mobiles, and other electronic devices, with the focus on maximising usability and the user experience. The goal of user interface design is to make the user's interaction as simple and efficient as possible in terms of accomplishing the users goals.

User Experience

User experience is the look and feel; the experience that the user has when using the interface. User experience varies because it is subjective to each person, but it is also constructive - the experience is only the best experience under the right context. There are many contexts in which a user experience can be influenced, including different cultures, class, trends, history, ideologies, generations, demographic, branding and lifestyle.

UX must take into consideration the representation of certain symbols and images - how do we know that images represent the same thing to multiple people?

UX can also effectively utilise persuasion to convince people to do or buy things by subtly guiding their subconscious motivations. This relies on certain aspects of the design - don’t take away all of the actions, make them feel like they are helping themselves rather than being given everything to simply absorb.
