OUGD503 - Studio Brief 02 - Royal Opera House Publication Research

As I was not present at the latest group meeting the group made decisions as to the deliverable of the projects, possible colour schemes for the designs and a timeline for the products. As previously discussed, I was given the responsibility of designing a publication as I had the most experience with editorial design and design for print.

Research was undertaken into the existing printed publications and leaflets that exist as part of the Royal Opera House's advertising ephemera. The company's current printed advertising is overwhelmingly corporate, using purely photographic images of scenes from different ballet's and washed out colour schemes. Most often the information is scaled too small to pick out, and the images do not often reflect the exciting and fantastical world of ballet. This kind of corporate design is not appropriate for the target audience the Royal Opera House is attempting to connect with.

Research was also undertaking into other existing leaflet design in order to inform the production of the printed material:

Simple line art and use of colour

Use of colour progression and folding
