Develop editorial content based around the theme of Motion. Using submitted content from the University’s students, create a cohesive narrative that both illustrates the chosen theme of the issue, whilst continuing to full represent the work of the selected individuals. Consider previous issues of the magazine and how the design of this issue fit in with, or stand out against, the general aesthetic of the magazine. The limitations of physically printed material should also be considered, and how this could be used to inform the design.
Audience
The primary target audience for this issue remains the students of the University, primary distribution will take place across the two University buildings. The wider audience for the magazine is individuals aged between 18-28, primarily in the creative industries. Distribution will also take place across Leeds and Manchester in order to reach this wider audience.
Themes
A selection of themes were generated for the last issue of NEST magazine this academic year, and the final issue under my editorship. Themes included:
The Paranormal
Motion
Dystopia and Utopia
Identity
24 Hours (work that was made in 24 hours or less)
The number 13
Of these themes, Motion felt the most relevant to the direction of the magazine. With the introduction of the new website and the expanded use of social media, Motion would allow the magazine to encompass an increased number of moving image works, and would also ensure further accessibility from courses that rarely submit, such as animation.
A poster was created to advertise open submissions. Students were given three weeks to submit to the new issue and were required to submit a 300pdi pdf of their work alongside their name, course, and a short description of the work
