OUGD603 - Brief 05 - Penguin - A Brief History of Time Evaluation

Evaluation

To create a successful cover design, primary/secondary research and concept generation were regarded as the most important phases of this project, and were necessary to create a solid foundation for the project. Contextual design decisions were made regarding typefaces and colour treatment so the design would be fully representative of the cover concept and the theme of the book - the black and white colour scheme was deemed successful in the context of the chosen title, and the varied type treatments created the fresh element that was required for the cover. Feedback at every stage was vital to ensure the concept remained clear, the design remained appropriate to the target audience, and the objectives of the original brief were adhered to. Designing to exact specifications required accuracy and attention to detail, and the strict competition deadline ensured that efficiency and time management were key. Although the cover was ultimately not successful in the competition, the design itself remained appropriate to the original brief and aims of the project.
