OUGD504 - Studio Brief 01 - Ceramic Sculpture Ideas

A selection of sketches detailing possible outcomes for the use of ceramics within this project:

1) Ceramic pages — clay could be rolled out to a couple of mm in size and text could either be embossed into the clay while wet using metal letterpress letters, or transferred onto the clay using transfer paper once fired. These could either form pages within the actual book or would form a series of accompanying

2) Train carriages — representative of the ornamental nature of ceramics, alongside the publication I could produce a series of ceramic sculptures portraying scenes from the metro station.

3) Lost and Found — again looking at ornamental objects I could also produce a series of ceramic sculptures based on items that are left either at the station or on the trains themselves. This could include keys, books, or even items of rubbish such as tin cans.

4) Figures — looking at ornamental objects once more I could represent the culture of the metro station and the people who it. I could produce a series of figurine sculptures based on locals and tourists who use the metro system.

5) Tiles — in order to allow users of the publication to experience the atmosphere of the metro station I could recreate the tens of thousands of ceramic tiles that make up the station's walls. These would make up a simple collection of plain ceramic tiles, each containing a different letter, number of punctuation mark.
