Grid systems are a unifying feature in all book design. World renowned designer Vignelli states that 'the consistency of a design is provided by the appropriate relationship of the various syntactical elements of the project: how type relates to grids and images from page to page throughout the whole project'. An appropriate grid system will strengthen the impact of the content in a publication, enhancing viewer experience and ensuring coherence and clarity across every page.
An obvious grid system for this publication can be found within the structure of the Concorde Metro itself. The station is comprised of square ceramic titles and the shape is one of the most iconic and memorable features for commuters. Therefore a square grid system applied within the design will create unity between the printed publication and the physical station, while also allowing the style of the metro to spread and influence different areas of the city.
